Sika Grout Calculator — SikaTile CEG, Flex & Epoxy Coverage

Sika has two grout product families that get mixed up by DIYers and professionals alike. This page runs the tile-grout coverage calculator (the one that matters for ceramic and stone joints) and explains structural SikaGrout 212/215 on the same page — so you never confuse the two again.

Critical distinction — two different grouts

✅ SikaTile CEG / Flex / Epoxy

Tile grout — THIS PAGE

Fills 1/8 to 1/2 in joints between ceramic, porcelain and stone tiles. Density 1.55–1.75 kg/L. Package size 3–5 kg.

❌ SikaGrout 212 / 215

Structural grout — NOT tile joints

For anchor bolts, machine bases and core fills. Has coarse aggregate — scratches tile surfaces. Not covered by the calculator below.

Structural note

SikaGrout 212 and 215 — structural non-shrink grout, not tile grout

SikaGrout 212 and 215 are high-performance non-shrink grouts for anchoring, base-plate grouting, and precast concrete connections. They contain coarse aggregate and are designed for 1/4 to 4 in joint gaps, not the 1/8 to 1/2 in joints between tiles. Here is what they are and how they differ from the tile products above.

SikaGrout 212

  • High early strength — ≥ 50 N/mm² compressive at 24 hours
  • Rapid hardening — can strip forms in 12 hours
  • For anchor bolts, dowels, machine bases
  • Package: 25 kg bag
  • Coverage: ~0.45 ft³ per 50 lb bag

SikaGrout 215

  • Normal-set — ≥ 65 N/mm² compressive at 28 days
  • Flowable — good for large voids and core fills
  • For precast connections, wall repairs, large anchor groups
  • Package: 25 kg bag
  • Coverage: ~0.40 ft³ per 50 lb bag

Core fill CMU walls? Use the Quikrete page

If you are core-filling concrete block walls (CMU) — the DIY market is heavy on this — SikaGrout 212/215 are premium options but the Quikrete approach is the industry default for that application. The Quikrete CMU grout calculator handles core fill math — blocks, cores, bag count — in a specialized tool.

Correct use

SikaTile CEG for standard ceramic and porcelain floors and walls, indoor and outdoor. 5 kg bag, 1.75 kg/L density, clean water mix.

Choice tip

Pick Flex if you have metal or resin tiles — the grout must flex with their expansion, which CEG does not handle. Epoxy only if you need stain immunity.

Do not do this

Never use SikaGrout 212 in tile joints. The coarse aggregate scratches polished stone, creates efflorescence, and is impossible to sponge off tile surfaces.

Sika grout FAQ

What is the difference between SikaTile and SikaGrout?

They are completely different products in completely different categories. SikaTile CEG, Flex, and Epoxy are tile grouts — designed to fill 1/8 to 1/2 in joints between ceramic, porcelain, or stone tiles. SikaGrout 212 and 215 are structural non-shrink grouts — designed to fill anchor bolts, machine bases, precast concrete connections, and core holes in concrete block walls (the Quikrete page covers that application). Never use SikaGrout 212 as tile grout — it has coarse aggregate that scratches tile surfaces and its chemistry causes efflorescence through the fine joints. And never use SikaTile CEG as structural grout — it has no coarse aggregate for load transfer.

SikaTile grout coverage per square metre — how much kg/m²?

Coverage in kg/m² is density × joint volume L/m². SikaTile CEG density is 1.75 kg/L. For a 12 × 12 × 3/8 in tile at 1/8 in joints: joint volume = 1.82 L/m² → coverage = 1.82 × 1.75 = 3.19 kg/m². One 5 kg bag covers about 1.57 m² (≈ 17 ft²) at that geometry, or 15 m² (≈ 161 ft²) at the 16 × 16 in reference geometry Sika publishes on their data sheets. Always compute from your own exact tile and joint — Sika's reference geometry (16 × 16 in, 1/8 in, 10 mm depth) is not every job.

Sika epoxy grout vs SikaTile CEG — which should I choose?

Pick SikaTile Epoxy if any of these are true: your tile floor sees food grease (kitchen counters, pizza shops), your shower steams daily (steam rooms, pool surrounds), or you will never remember to re-seal cement grout every 1–3 years. Sika epoxy costs about 3× SikaTile CEG per square foot but needs zero sealing, resists stains completely, and cleans with a damp cloth. Pick SikaTile CEG or Flex for standard residential bathrooms, backsplashes, and floors — it is easier to install, cures fast, and handles everything a typical home throws at it. For metal, resin, or glass tiles, SikaTile Flex is mandatory — the grout must flex with those substrate materials.

SikaGrout 212 vs 215 — what is the difference?

Both are structural non-shrink grouts, but SikaGrout 212 is a high-strength rapid-hardening formulation (24-hour compressive strength ≥ 50 N/mm²) for anchor bolts, dowels, and machine base grouting. SikaGrout 215 is a normal-set non-shrink grout (28-day ≥ 65 N/mm²) for larger volume core fills, precast connections, and concrete wall repairs. Neither is tile grout — they contain coarse aggregate and must not be used in tile joints. SikaGrout 212/215 coverage is in cubic feet per bag, not kg/m² — a 50 lb bag of SikaGrout 212 yields about 0.45 ft³ of mix.

How much water for SikaTile CEG grout?

6–7% by weight for SikaTile CEG — that is 0.30–0.35 L of water per 5 kg bag. Too much water creates efflorescence, reduces compressive strength, and makes the grout more porous. Too little water makes it too dry to spread and leaves undispersed cement clumps. Measure the water precisely with a graduated pitcher — eyeing it from the faucet is the most common Sika installation mistake. For SikaTile Epoxy, mix 100 parts by weight Part A to 10 parts Part B — no water at all.
